Writing - Q1 Week 1 Day 3

Entry Task: On a blank piece of notebook paper, write your name (first and last), Writing Period xx, and the date in the top right corner. Then we did the first piece of baseline writing for class this year. Students wrote for 45 minutes on the writing prompt. Then we practiced Circling Up and had class meeting.

Reading - Q1 Week 1 Day 3

Entry Task: Review your quick write from yesterday. Add any details that you think of today. We went to the library for orientation. Then, we discussed what your "rights" are as a reader. We made a list of those for our Thinking Notebooks (which we will set up next week - remember you will want two composition notebooks on Tuesday!)

Writing - Q1 Week 1 Day 2

Entry Task: Take out the bookmark you received in Science yesterday and add my information to the Teacher Website section: Ms. Faircloth Reading & Writing fairclothmms.blogspot.com We read aloud a chapter from Because of Winn Dixie, where the character is wanting to know more about her mother. Her dad gives her 10 things about her mom (a "decalogue"). Then, we talked about the importance of knowing things about yourselves as writers. Students wrote a "decalogue" of 10 things about themselves as writers and shared it with their elbow partners. We also practiced how to "circle up" for class meeting.

Reading - Q1 Week 1 Day 2

Entry Task  - students wrote on a piece of scratch paper: "What makes someone 'successful'?" Then we did a Gallery Walk - with students adding their thoughts about how these things help someone succeed: attitude flexibility openmindedness/willing to learn new things integrity teamwork being prepared work ethic effort body language positive energy After the gallery walk, students did a quick write:  "Choose one of the characteristics and write about how you will bring that characteristic to our classroom community this year."

Writing - Q1 Week 1 Day 1

Welcome back to school! Today students did the entry task - " How Many Ways Can you Punctuate This Sentence ?" Then we did some ice breaker activities as a class.

Reading - Q1 Week 1 Day 1

Welcome back to school! Students recorded how many books they read this summer. Then we discussed what students are excited/nervous about for this year by commenting on the "parking lot" posters in the classroom.
